After Your Surgery:

Caring for a Wound That Heals on Its Own (Any Body Area)

Dr. Thomas Hocker and the Advanced Dermatologic Surgery team created these short videos to help you care for your surgical site, understand what is normal during healing, and know when to contact our office.



After skin cancer removal, such as Mohs surgery, some wounds are not closed with stitches. Instead, they are left open to heal naturally from the bottom up, a process called "second intention healing." These instructions apply to open wounds on any part of the body, including the face, scalp, arms, legs, and trunk.

These are general guidelines meant to supplement the instructions you received at Advanced Dermatologic Surgery on the day of your procedure. If anything here differs from what your care team told you, follow your personalized instructions, and call our office with any questions.
